Testimonials our listeners have sent in
Russ and Shannon, I recently had a check engine light on my '04 Jaguar X- Type with the 3.0 litre Ford engine. The code was for lean condition on both banks and their was a rough idle when cold... I suspected the electronic throttle and was almost going to buy a used one when I remembered Russ always talking about vacuum leaks on various cars with an unstable idle. Sure enough there was a TSB for two o-rings on the manifold that frequently leak. I replaced the o-rings, cleared the code and no problems since. Thanks for your help. You saved me spending over $300.00 for a used throttle that would not have fixed the problem...... Harold in Coppell Texas.
Russ, thank you so much for your help on 11/24/09. You were right on the money! after your test advice for the injectors and computer I decided to try and borrow one for the truck from a buddy who had one on his shelf. The truck now runs GREAT!!! Now I'll go buy a new one and I'll be set to go. Again, thank you.
Sincerely, Steve Trost

Thank you for your QUICK response. We worked on it right after receiving your email, and got it done just before the rain came. We weren't aware how the sun roof drains worked & did find a problem on the right side. Guess this afternoon's showers will be a good test of our talents. You guys are amazing! I am a faithful listener"
Carolyn question was, "I have a Saturn SC2 2000 model. We dearly love this little car. However, it has developed a leak in the roof on the passenger side and we can't figure out where it is coming from. Although we have a sun roof, the sun roof seal seems to be tight all around, never wet or dripping around the window inside. We have caulked the frame above the door on the outside - it rained last night and this morning there are two spots on the floor. One directly in front and to the right of the passenger seat, the other almost a foot & 1/2 straight ahead. There were a few drops of water hanging from the "roof handle" above the door, and the padding is wet in the uppermost right corner of the windshield, next to the visor mount. Would you have a clue where this could be coming from? The car was two years old when we purchased it, but it has never been in an accident to our knowledge. The seats, thank heaven, never get wet, only the floor on the passenger side. Would love to have some advice on this one. Thank you."
Our answer was... Check the drain for the sun roof. If the drains are plugged there will be a leak just like this. Thank you for listening to Under The Hood.

Dear motor medics, while on vacation I had a problem with my 2004 Ford Taurus. We were just North of St. Joseph Missouri at a rest stop. I listen to the show each week back home in Fargo North Dakota and have emailed several times. Each time I emailed you I got a response within a few minutes so I emailed my problem to you and within ten minutes Russ responded with the correct advice that saved our trip. You asked if my fuel pump could be heard when I turned on the key and if not, try to pound on the center of the tank while someone cranked it. Your advice worked! The car started and I drove another 300 miles to my destination and had the pump replaced. Thank you so much for you help. I will tell everyone about your show.
