My first "car" was a truck! Here is my 1959 Chevy Apache pickup that I purchased with my own money in 1980 when I was 15. My dad and I worked 1 year changing the cab to a "wrap around" back window, installing an overhauled, healthy 327 from an Impala and mated it to a Muncie 4-speed & finished the body & paint in "78 Corvette Yellow" (the color didn't turn out like we'd hoped but I was proud nonetheless) I loved that truck & the time spent with my dad. He would work 10-11 hour days as a mechanic for a fertilizer company, come home, eat dinner & then he'd spend another 1-3 hours out back with me every single night, what a man. I miss my truck which was later sold because I had a family on the way. I lost my dad Sept of 2007 and i miss him terribly as well but I'll never forget those nights spent making this old Chevy something to be proud of. Thank you guys for letting me share my story, it really brought back some great memories.
Thank you Shannon for sharing this with us. Family memories always mean a lot to us. We can relate. Take care, Russ, Shannon, and Chris.
