When we got the call from Richard Rawlings of Gas Monkey Garage inquiring about our LS Engine Conversions for a 76 Chevy Caprice we did not know what to think. We had done some rat rod 57 Caddys and other off the wall stuff but this one was our most unique request. At the time we did not know Richard well and Fast N' Loud was not on the air yet so we didn't know of the awesome style and character Richard has when choosing a car to build. After watching every episode of Fast N' Loud several times it now all makes sense. Richard choose this car to make a statement and that it did! We drove to Dallas to his shop and picked up the Caprice and hauled it back to our Shop in South Dakota and started to plan. The car had some extensive Gas Monkey modifications done to it already by Aaron and Richard and was way cool but the engine lacked power and we were the guys setting the pace at the time with our EZ2Run Fuel Injected Engine Packages. Richard and Aaron wanted Ba Ba Ba Bad in true Gas Monkey Style so we came up with an LQ9 Escalade 6.0 Engine and Transmission from a new Escalade. We ran the specs by Master Builder Aaron, and Richard approved. They wanted to go fast for the Bullrun Rally and they got it! The performance of the car became pretty stout and this old green Caprice can now flat out haul! After we finished with the engine package and a long two weeks of cruising, we mean "testing" this bad machine, it was shipped back to Dallas where the Monkeys finished tricking it out for the Bullrun Rally. It did really well except for a fuel pump issue which set it back. We should have gone with a bigger pump. That's racing... It was an honor to be a part of this build and see this car go on to become a Gas Monkey Rally Car Icon and acording to their website it became a Gas Monkey Raffle Car Giveaway by them for a great cause, Sharkarosa Ranch. You can see more about this and other cars and the Awesome Guys at Gas Monkey Garage by watching Fast N' Loud Every week on Discovery Channel. We never miss it! We hope we can work with them again.
